Garissa University starts construction of millions Shilling hostels

Despite the fact that there was a mascre at the Garissa University College,things are slowly getting back to normal and this has been seen as a good move by various stake holders.Seemingly the deadly April attack did not deter the administration from continuing with projects that they had intended to undertake.
Garissa University College on Monday began the construction of a modern hostel worth Sh430 million. Speaking to the press during the ground breaking ceremony, the chairman of the University Council Dr Hukka Wario described it as historic and a turning point for students in the northern region.
He said the construction of the new hostels will enable the university to enrol more students in the coming years.
Garissa University College, a constituent college of Moi University is the first public University in northern Kenya and it shares building with Garissa Teachers Training College.
Dr Wario said the university will be fully fledged in the near future after it take fully the compound adding that the teachers training college had agreed to move to Boystown.
“We had meeting with Garissa TTC they have agreed to move, we are looking forward to a fully fledged Garissa University,” he said.
He said the university will move to other parts of north eastern region such as Mandera and Wajir.
He urged locals to put up accommodation facilities around the university saying the university is expecting more than 400 students in September 2014.
The university's Principal Prof Francis Mulaa said the new hostels that are set to accommodate more than 800 students will take into consideration the various needs of the students so that they become all rounded.
He noted that students can cook for themselves in the new hostels. He said the facility will have catering, wireless internet and a library services to make it easy for students to read without any inconveniences.
Among those present during the ground breaking ceremony were the Vice Chancellor of Moi University Prof Rechard Mibey, Prof Kirimi Kiriamiti the Deputy Principal, Administration and Finance and Prof Genevive Mwayuli the Deputy Principal, Academic Affairs.
This indded can be seen as a positive move and only time will tell of how the completion and admission will be.
