A bus carrying secondary school students was attacked by bandits near Loruk in Baringo County. The bus, which was hired by Nginyang Hish School, was ferrying the students who had attended music festivals in Kabarnet but no casualties were reported in the incident.

The bus was in a convoy of vehicles that were being escorted by police officers, with one escort vehicle in front and another at behind. However, Police did not return fire because they reportedly did not hear the shots.

This comes days after Baringo County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo gave a shoot to kill order on bandits and cattle rustlers. The order has received sharp criticism by human rights organisations, who say the order violates basic human rights.

Baringo County Commissioner, while speaking to Citizen Digital, said the shoot to kill order is still in force adding that the order was justified because the situation is serious.

The commissioner intimated that after the killing of a chief in the area, a 10-man hit list belonging to the bandits was discovered, adding that of the ten men, nine are still alive and are being targeted by the bandits.

The county commissioner also called on human rights organisations to be balanced in their activism, claiming that they only speak out when a shoot to kill order is issued but keep silent when police and wananchi are massacred by bandits.
